About Us - DIET, RK PURAM
DIET R.K.Puram has been established as a pace setting institution with the objective to bring qualitative and quantitative enrichment in elementary education in the New Delhi district, through conducting research, experiments, training, developing materials and providing resource support. Since its establishment, DIET R.K.Puram is constantly engaged in achieving these objectives.
This is an institute that captures the multi-faceted personality of the elementary education visionaries. The institute performs a wide range of academic activities with the idea of development of a complete personality, self-discipline, spirit of co-operation, innovative ideas, scientific temper and missionary zeal which are the necessary part of studies. The institute run 2 year D.El.ED Programme with the in-take of 50 students.

Mission
The mission of DIET R K Puram is to provide academic and resource support primarily to different stakeholders at elementary level by implementing the new age educational reforms through its various need-specific interventions.
Objectives
The DIET functions with three main objectives: -
- To organize pre-service and in-service training (both of induction level as well as for continuing professional development)
- To provide resource support (extension/guidance, development of subject-specific materials, teaching-learning materials, evaluation tools, etc.) and
- To conduct action research

New Delhi District - An Introduction
The National Capital Territory of Delhi is divided into nine revenue districts. Each district is headed by a Deputy Commissioner and has three subdivisions. A Subdivision Magistrate heads each subdivision. All Deputy Commissioners report to the Divisional Commissioner. These districts are meant only for revenue collection & Administration.
New Delhi District: -A Scenario
The New Delhi District can be termed as the heart of NCT Delhi. It is located at the Centre and houses umpteen localities. It is also known as ‘Lutyens’ Delhi as most of the bungalows of the high-rank government officials, ministers, and other VIPs are situated here.
Landmarks: -
The Parliament, the President’s House and all Central Government Offices are situated in this area. Most of the important embassies are also housed in this area. The district is bestowed with evergreen trees, lush green parks, gardens including the famous Mughals Garden, Lodhi Garden, Nehru Park, etc. Being situated at the centre, this place is also the heart of business centre as most of the famous shops including state emporia, business companies, airlines and tourism offices, hotels and other establishments do brisk business. Most of the banks have their main office/branch at Connaught Place and adjoin areas. The basic amenities are well provided by New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) – a centralized and well-coordinated Government organization.

Literacy Rate of All the District of Delhi is almost equal to each other, as far as the data 2011 census is concerned the literacy of New Delhi District is higher among the other the district.

Status of Literacy of New Delhi District
Literacy is one of key socio-economic progress meter of modern society and important aspect of Indian society. As per latest Indian Population Census 2011, India's literacy rate stands at 74.04 percent, an increase of 9.2% from the last decade. There is also wide gender disparity in the literacy rate of India as per census 2011 where literacy rate for male is 82.14 percentage while female stands at 65.46 percentage. Interestingly, in this decade (2001-2011), more women were added to literate population than men.

2. School Education Scenario of the District:-
Administrative Structure of Education -District New Delhi
Educationally, the NCT of Delhi has been divided into four management unit’s viz.: Directorate of Education, GNCT of Delhi, Education Department, of MCD (South DMC, North MCD, East MCD) Education Department of New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) and Delhi Cantonment Board, Educational Zones of these Bodies control Pre-primary education, Primary education, and Secondary education and Sr. Secondary education in their respective areas. There are Nine DIETs in nine revenue districts and at state level SCERT which organizes INSET programmes for teachers working in four management units in GNCT Delhi. DIET R.K.Puram operational area is New Delhi District. NDMC managed schools (from Pre-Primary to Senior Secondary Level) are conterminous with administrative zones. Beside this in District New Delhi five Senior Secondary Schools which are looked after by the Directorate of education, Govt. of NCT of Delhi. There are nine revenue Districts in NCT Delhi and thirteen Educational Districts under Directorate of Education for smooth functioning of School Education Administration.
